Sometimes the “help” just can’t stay out of the shot. For the recent Vineyard Vines photoshoot for their Summer 2017 catalog, St John was chosen as their ideal location. Most of the water shots, including the cover, were taken at Caneel Bay Resort. Their camera even caught the captain of Spitfire (that would be me) in a few of their shots. Get the catalog, (Spitfire underway appears full page in it) and come sail with us.
It takes about 10 people to make a photo shoot work. We provide the boat and the scenery; they provide the bathing suits and models.
Sometimes it takes a little aerobatic skill to get the right angle. This poor guy was up in the bosun’s chair for nearly two hours.
We sailed around during bathing suit changes, looking for just the right beach and water color. We found it.
Travel & Leisure
Many of our guests take the pose that the model did for the cover shot. This is the second most repeated pose, the TITANIC shot “I am the king of the world” is number one.
My job in this promotional video for the VI Tourist Bureau was to try to run down the cameraman in his little boat. As much as I tried, he managed to just slip out of the way each time we passed. The video is also used by Caneel Bay Resort in their Welcome Center at the St Thomas airport.
